Who’s an awesome property investor? The Queen.
June 3, 2012
There’s so much to celebrate this Diamond Jubilee!
According to the FT the Queen’s property revenue is up 9,200% since she took the throne in 1953.
The article states that “The Crown Estate, the company that owns the sovereign’s land and property in the UK, produced rental income of just £2.5m in 1952 – enough to buy a mid-market central London house today. In its results for the year to the end of March 2011, the company reported revenue of £230m.”
Since 2010 Queen Elizabeth II gets 15% of this revenue, overturning an agreement made in 1760 by King George III that entitled her only to a fixed annual payment.
As an FT op-ed published a day before points out “[The Queen] never auditioned for the role on any game show like Britain’s Got Talent, nor passed a competitive examination nor attended an interview for the job; but she has turned out to be jolly good at it.”
Sure looks like it.
